CV - Mayor of Mirina of Limnos

The mayor of Mirina Limnou, Mr. Skamagis Athanasios-Evagelos, has a family background in Limnos - his father is from Kaspakas and his mother from Korno. He was born in Kairo, Egypt in 1950 where he finished his High School studies. He studied Medical Science at Athens University. He worked as a field doctor at the Hospital of Limnos and then he continued working at the Surgery Department of the same hospital, specializing in Surgery.
After that, he specialized at the academic orthopedic department of “KAT” hospital. At the same time, he finished his PhD and became a doctor of Athens University with grade A (“Excellent”) in 1983.
During his specialization in orthopedics, he worked for 5 years at the “General State” Hospital (Geniko Kratiko) in Nikaia of Praieus. He also took part in a Research Laboratory Program at the Orthopedic Hospital of Athens University, with a scholarship named “Kostas Konialidis”.
His wish has always been to live and work in Limnos, the place of his roots. In 1987 that wish came true as he became General Manager of the National Health System of the brand new Orthopedic Department at Limnos Hospital. He organized that department and brought it to the high level at which it is today.
His academic work was full of essays which were presented at National European Conferences. These essays were associated with Limnos and some of them distinguished as excellent.
He was founder of Limnos Medical Club in 1996 and chairman of Board of Directors for four contiguous incumbencies. Also, he has been founder of Limnos Nautical Club since 1989 and chairman of Board of Directors for eight continuous incumbencies.
In October 2006, for the first time he was interested in taking part in Local Government as a mayor candicate for the Municipality of Mirina and since then he is Mirina’s mayor.
